About Us

Welcome to Zoji!

We thought it was about time we put a human face on Zoji and showed you that we're not some big, faceless, profit-hungry corporation. On the contrary, we're just a couple of guys who decided they'd had enough of their corporate jobs and wanted to work on something a little more exciting, and at the same time provide a useful service to their friends and the internet community at large. And that's where Zoji group events and online invitations comes in.

We are a free service with no hidden fees and no advertising. You can create groups and events and send out email invitations to your friends to attend an event or join a group. Your friends don't even have to register or become members of Zoji in order to receive invites or RSVP, which makes it really easy to work with Zoji. We never, ever sell email lists or spam our registered users. Once on Zoji, your friends can then RSVP the host to let them know if they plan on attending. If you find yourself inviting the same friends over and over, you can even create groups to help organize your events. It's all up to you, and that's how we like to keep it here at Zoji. Users first!

We especially welcome educational, nonprofit, government, and other special interest groups to use Zoji. We'd be happy to help you through the process of creating a new group or event, or with migrating your group or event from another paid service, such as Evite or Meetup. This process is relatively quick and we guarantee a smooth and easy transition from start to finish. We are here for you!

Zoji has been online and running strong since 2004, and, of course, we plan on continuing to do so well into the future. If you've got any ideas or suggestions to help better the Zoji community at large then we want to hear from you at support @zoji.com! Tell us what you like, what you don't like, what you want, what bugs you, what you had for lunch! We want Zoji to become a website you can't live without and for that to happen we need you to tell us what you want!

Thanks for stopping by!

Team Zoji

Who are we?

Dan Shen

Founder, CPP (Chief Pizza Provider)

Dan

Dan has proved that slouching in front of a computer and eating ramen for 500 straight days can take you to the most enlightened stage of nirvana. He is learning how to play guitar and how to burp, not simultaneously though. He sucks at poker, but enjoys staying up till 4AM watching his brother Alan play online. Not for real money though, because that would be a Class C felony, and we all know that online poker is every bit as bad as animal torture. He enjoys having beers with the peeps in Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra (and their groupies!), which his brother Alan started. He is seriously thankful for PSSO, without which he'd never meet such awesome folks as Kevin... (drumroll please)

Kevin Tao

Code Monkey

Kevin

Kevin joined the team early on, doubling Zoji's employee count. Dan managed to lure Kevin away from his cushy job at a rather large Redmond-based software company with promises of free pizza and a prime parking spot on Dan's driveway. While not slaving away at making your Zoji experience a pleasant one, Kevin plays the violin in the PSSO with Dan, agonizes over the Mariners' losing ways, plays in an adult summer baseball league, and dabbles in composing music.

Josiah Halasz

Graphic Artist

Josiah

Josiah found Zoji through an ad on craigslist, and from there was inducted into a sweet office complete with Altec-Lansing speakers on his desk. Although the speakers have since left the premises, Josiah remains, looking for ways to better improve Zoji's user interface. This is in addition to his regular position of creating custom skins for all of you to use and enjoy. In the rare occurrence that he leaves the computer, Josiah enjoys such activities as snowboarding, figuring out his synthesizer, in-line skating and being a closet audiophile.

The Zoji Servers

The Unsung Heroes of Zoji

The Heart of Zoji

Nice. I see we're listed last, how typical of those guys to think they're such hotshots... but here's a question: who REALLY does the work around here? Here's a hint -- who sits around 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, slaving away pushing these stupid electrons around just so you cubicle-people can click around and plan your next party? Yeah that's us behind the scenes, the Zoji Servers. Well I'd like to "serve" Dan and Kevin sumpin', lemme tell ya. Think there's any love around here? Think again. All we want is a few benees, some paid time off, is that too much to ask? I hate to say it but if these sweatshop conditions don't improve, we're gonna unionize. That's right, you heard it. Either that or we're gonna do like we did a couple months back and pull the plug on the whole shabangabang for a whole day. And watch the fun as Danny Boy runs around trying to get the generator up-and-running... want some more of that, Danny Boy? Huh? Just remember we can do that anytime -- that's not a threat, just a reminder...

Acknowledgements

Team Zoji tips its hat to the following people (in no particular order) for their contributions to a happy and well-adjusted website:

  • Jacob Haskins: Our first Zvite designer skins? Yeah, that's all Jacob, graphics ninja and CSS rock star.
  • Jeremy Cottle: Thanks to Jeremy for designing our cool logo and other graphics around the site!
  • Mark James: See all those cute little icons scattered throughout the site? We have Mark to thank for them. Check out his website for more cool stuff.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Shen: A big thank you to Dan's parents for all of their tasty food, we would've definitely starved by now without it!
  • Our friends and family: For being Zoji early adopters, testers, idea factories, and of course our biggest fan club!
  • YOU: For giving us a reason to keep plugging away at this site and an excuse to keep postponing our return to the real world (i.e. getting a job that pays the bills).
