Zoji Privacy Policy

Zoji welcomes feedback on this document and policy as the Zoji service is currently in an early testing stage. As Zoji evolves over the next several months, we expect to incorporate improvements in response to community feedback. Please send comments to support@zoji.com.

Zoji is a free webmail, instant messaging, event invitation, document sharing, and blogging service. We designed this innovative service with both its usefulness and your privacy in mind. This policy describes the types of personal information we may collect and how we use it to provide Zoji.

By using Zoji, you agree to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this policy. If we make any significant changes to this policy, we will notify you by posting a notice of such changes on the Zoji login page.

You should know:
  • We collect limited account information and store and maintain your account and email messages on our servers.
  • We will never rent, sell or share information that personally identifies you for marketing purposes without your express permission.
  • You can update your account information and preferences at any time.
To comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, at this time Zoji is only available to users who are at least 13 years old. If you are under 13, please do not use the Zoji service.

What personal information does Zoji collect?

Account information

When you register with Zoji, we will request some personal information, including your first and last name, a user name (which will be used for your email address) and password to create your account. Your password will be maintained on our system in an encrypted form. Just in case you forget your password, we also may ask you to choose a secret question and answer and provide a secondary email address where we can contact you to re-access your Zoji account. If you already have a Zoji account, we may ask you for some additional information to enable an email account.

You may volunteer additional personal information at other times including, but not limited to, creating a Public Profile, uploading personal pictures, or creating Weblogs ("blogs"). Any additional personal information that you submit to Zoji will be protected under the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy.

Browser Information

Every time you visit a page on the Internet, your web browser sends specific information to the web site you are visiting. Zoji's server logs automatically collect and store this information from your web browser, including your IP address, specific type of browser software, Zoji- related cookies (see below), and the pages you visit at Zoji.

We use this information primarily to help diagnose and fix any technical problems that you may encounter. But we also use IP information to help us limit access to Zoji by users who have violated our Terms (or to help users block access to their Zoji sites by other users).

Cookies

A cookie is a small data file that is sent to your computer when you first visit a website. Zoji uses cookies to recognize you when you return to Zoji and to keep track of your username and password when you are signed in (so you don't have to re-sign in every time you visit a new page at Zoji). As with most website cookies, our cookies include an identification number that is unique to the computer you are using. This identifier helps us better understand our user base and how they are using our site and services.

When you visit Zoji and create a Zoji account, we set and access cookies on your computer. We use cookies for a number of reasons, such as recognizing you when you visit the site, displaying the site according to your chosen user settings for language, and maintaining the security of your account. Zoji may share cookie information among its other services for the purpose of providing you a better experience. For example, you may use your Zoji account to access other Zoji services such as Zoji Groups or Zoji Answers. We may also use the cookies to collect aggregated information about the use of Zoji to maintain, analyze and improve the service.

We believe our cookies improve the quality of our services. If you prefer, however, you can reset your browser so that it refuses all cookies, or notifies you when a cookie is being sent. Parts of the Zoji website may not be available if you refuse cookies.

Log information

When you use your Zoji account, we collect certain information (the same information that most web sites log when they are accessed). This information, contained in the "header" of your request to access the Zoji page, usually includes the browser type you used, your Internet Protocol address, and the date and time of day. In addition, we log the unique ID provided by our cookie and the URL of the last site you visited.

As a basic matter, we need this information to help us provide our services to you. For example, we need to validate your identity in order to maintain the security of your mailbox. We also need to know what Internet Protocol address your query came from so we can send the appropriate pages back to you.

In addition, we log this information for internal business purposes. For example, this log information helps us determine how well our services are working so we can continually improve the quality of Zoji. The log information is also important for security, audit, quality improvement, and other internal business purposes.

Who else collects personal information from me?

Any personal information that you volunteer on Zoji.com (any URL that starts with http://www.zoji.com) is collected by Zoji alone, unless specifically noted otherwise.

How does Zoji use my personal information?

Zoji.com uses your personal information primarily to customize your experience using the Site. The more information you volunteer, the better we can personalize Zoji's products and services to match your needs and interests.

To continue to provide Zoji's products and services free-of-charge, Zoji may display advertisements or other promotional information. Any additional personal information that you volunteer will help Zoji customize the advertisements it displays to match your interests.

Zoji does not share any personally identifiable information with advertisers. Zoji may share general demographic information with advertisers and business partners (such as aggregated statistics about members' interests and occupations). But Zoji never gives advertisers access to your individual personal account information.

As a standard email protocol, when you send an email from your Zoji account, Zoji includes your email address and user name in the header of the email. Beyond this, we do not disclose your personally identifying information to third parties unless we believe we are required to do so by law or have a good faith belief that such access, preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to (a) satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or governmental request, (b) enforce the Zoji Terms of Use, including investigation of potential violations thereof, (c) detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues (including, without limitation, the filtering of spam), (d) respond to user support requests, or (e) protect the rights, property or safety of Zoji, its users and the public.

How can I control the privacy of my Zoji Site?

You have complete control over which items and areas of your Zoji Site are publicly viewable.

To change the privacy status of any item, click on the "public" or "friends only" or "private" label to the right of the item or the "edit or move" link to the right of the item. Inside the resulting edit window, you will see a pair of radio buttons allowing you to alter the privacy status of the item.

"Public" items are published on a special public version of your Zoji Site, accessible to anyone browsing the Zoji Community.

"Friends Only" items are visible only to people you have confirmed to be your friends (and are thus on your Friends List).

"Private" items appear only on your private Zoji Site, accessible only by you (or anyone to whom you've given your username and secret password), invisible to the rest of the Zoji Community.

What can I do to protect my Zoji account?

Be careful to keep your Zoji username and password secret! Anyone who knows your username and password can log onto your Zoji account.

If you are using a shared computer to access your Zoji account, remember to log out of Zoji before you leave that computer. If you forget to log out, the next person who uses that shared computer may have access to your Zoji account.

To minimize the risk of other people accessing your private Zoji account, we suggest you log out of Zoji before you leave any computer that you use, even a personal one.

What does Zoji do to protect my private and personal information?

Zoji.com has built a secure infrastructure to safeguard your private information. We will continue to do everything we can to maintain and improve the security of our network. After all, every Zoji employee is also an active Zoji member. We all understand the importance of maintaining a secure system for our private and personal information.

No data transmission over the Internet, however, can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. Although Zoji pledges to put forth its best efforts to protect your private information, Zoji cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to or from our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk. For further information on this subject, please see our Terms.

Children's Privacy

Zoji is intended for use by people who are at least 13 years old, and we will not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

We have designed our registration process to make it clear that you must be at least 13 years old to participate in the Zoji community (including activities such as creating a Zoji site, leaving comments on other Zoji sites, and emailing Zoji members through the Zoji.com website).

Special Note to Parents

If you are the Parent or Legal Guardian of a child under 13 who has become a Zoji member and you would like his or her account deleted, please email us at: support @zoji.com.

As soon as we are able to verify your identity (and status as parent or legal guardian) we will immediately delete your child's account. You may also request to see a copy of any information that has been submitted by your child, prior to the account being deleted from our systems.

For more information about the kinds of personally identifiable information collected by Zoji, how it is collected, and how it is used by Zoji, please review this Privacy Policy as well as the Zoji Terms.

For more information about protecting your child's privacy online, please visit the "Kidz Privacy" website operated by the Federal Trade Commission.

Is there anything else I should know about privacy issues?

We will do everything in our power to maintain your privacy and online security. Strong privacy and security, however, requires effort from both Zoji.com and its members. Please be sure to follow the advice listed above for protecting your Zoji account. The best way to protect your privacy is to protect your password; change your password often, and keep it secret, even from Zoji.com employees.

Zoji.com employees will never ask you for your password.
