Impressions

not only is dan "talented," "beautiful" and "intelligent," but he also makes a mean bowl of ramen. i cherish the nuggets of wisdom that he has passed down to me in his drunken states. they remind me to be a better person.

hey dan, it's a nice website you got going. i'm working on getting my "cool" friends on here (mostly girls) so i'll see what i can do. I added Eugene as a friend but he hasn't saved me yet. Ha! oh well, take care man. aaron

Dan Shen is smooth hedonism.

Dan STOLE Zoji from me! I AM THE TRUE MASTER OF ZOJI!!!! The truth is now out.

Dan is the coolest Star Trek fan I know. I've seen him racing bikes through Ravenna Park dressed like Jean-Luc Picard shouting "Make it so #1!!!" Additionally, at a recent Star Trek Convention he won the "Dress like Data's perfect date" contest. Wow, no computer chips missing in that outfit. ;) Dan = Dork;

About

It's true that I'm a city boy, but I was born-and-raised in the small town of Aberdeen, WA. My dad worked at the paper mill, my mom was an accountant, and our family ran a Chinese restaurant called the Jade Tree. Sometimes I miss those quiet, simpler days, playing imaginary-world games with my brother.

I'm part of a bridge generation that hopes to take the best from two different continents and cultures. I'm thankful for all the opportunities mom & dad opened for me and I try never to take them for granted. My goal in life is not to accumulate anything except goodwill, and have enough of it to give and make a lasting impression.

I'm a pretty emotional guy esp. when it comes to music, which I have a whole lotta passion for. But I also have a pretty logical side which I can use to be efficient and productive.

Obama made me money

This presidential election marked the first time I tried Intrade, a widely-used prediction market where you can put your money where your mouth is ... on just about anything.

In the 2004 election, I heard about Intrade, and watched in amazement as Kerry took a complete nosedive on election day, as the results came in. The real-time nature of the market was amazing, I knew I had to give it a go the next time around.

It works like this: You can buy a contract at a certain price. Say it was mid-September, Obama contracts were around $5. On election day, it is either going to be worth $10 or $0. As the events unfolded and we moved closer to election day, the Obama contract incrementally went up to $6, $7, $8 and finally $9. At any of these times, you could sell and make a profit. But of course if you ride it out till election day, you go the distance and make your full amount.

So what did I put my money on?

- Obama, LONG

- McCain, SHORT (I know, that's basically Obama long, but just wanted to see how it all worked

- Palin kicked off the Republican ticket, SHORT (didn't think there was any way that could happen. It was a $0.40 contract, so by going short, you needed to pony up $9.60.

All in all, I netted myself $336. Woohoo :P While the stock market is in the dumps, I think prediction markets are my next addiction and I may have better luck, actually. Any advice on what to bet on next? I wanna take the winnings and double it :)

After a looooong deliberation. I've decided Zoji is superior to Friendster, Myspace, Facebook, and every other online profile community. Kudos on making your baby work.

At the place we mostly kick it here in Silicon Valley, there is a nice desktop box in the living room full of petabytes of bittorrent content.  The parallels to the Vortex are undeniable.

What do I need to do to get a karaoke system on there?
