A Game of Thrones

by George R. R. Martin

I didn't realize this was the first of 7 planned novels (series called A Song of Ice and Fire) so I was annoyed when I reaized after 600 pages (with about 220 left) that this was just the beginning. The book was quite enrapturing, its the first fantasy I've read in over 10 years, and I see how people can get hooked. Wow, lots of sex. I didn't remember fantasy having sex in it when I was a kid. Maybe they didn't...

Anyway, although I enjoyed many parts, I won't continue the series but mostly because I don't have time to read 820 page books that don't contain equations and numbers.

something keeps me coming back, even though they aren't as cheap as the other fast food places and their food doesn't seem much better. but i just find it so easy, "i'd like a vanilla shake, fries and a cheeseburger." it's what i always get, and it's somehow very satisfying.
i also heard they pay their employees fair and have generally good business practices, so i don't feel guilty about eating there for those reasons at least.

yep, same as the bourne _blank_... except they jerked the camera around even more than in the past. so annoying, i don't need the camera to be bouncing around just because action is happening.

Guns, Germs, and Steel

Rating (not bad)
Notes
This book took me forever to finish. It started out great (hence the not bad rating), and I thought I was going to love it after the first 50 or so pages. After the first 150, it was still pretty good. But after that, almost nothing new was said for the next 600 pages. He just repeated, and repeated, and repeated the same stuff he'd discussed earlier in the book. It was incredibly slow going, I don't know how people could enjoy the second half of this book. I desperately need a page turner as my next book, just as a pick me up so I don't think reading blows anymore... The book would have been excellent if it was 400 or so pages shorter and thus had not repeated itself so much
