About Me:: It's true that I'm a city boy, but I was born-and-raised in the small town of Aberdeen, WA. My dad worked at the paper mill, my mom was an accountant, and our family ran a Chinese restaurant called the Jade Tree. Sometimes I miss those quiet, simpler days, playing imaginary-world games with my brother.

I'm part of a bridge generation that hopes to take the best from two different continents and cultures. I'm thankful for all the opportunities mom & dad opened for me and I try never to take them for granted. My goal in life is not to accumulate anything except goodwill, and have enough of it to give and make a lasting impression.

I'm a pretty emotional guy esp. when it comes to music, which I have a whole lotta passion for. But I also have a pretty logical side which I can use to be efficient and productive.

The Secret to Crispy Bacon

I'd like to share my thoughts on a food that has unanimous appeal, even to vegans and vegetarians I've talked to. Folks, I'm talkin' about crispy crunchy 100% pure BACON. In case you didn't know, the secret to great bacon is LOW HEAT. As with most good things in life, you have to be patient and take your time if you want a GREAT CRISPY BACON. That's why the kind you get at cafeterias usually SUCKS BIG TIME because they gotta think volume and don't take their time on low heat, resulting in an inferior, floppy uncooked bacon. You know exactly what I'm talking about.

This morning I made some and it was so good I thought, who better to share this experience with than my friends on Zoji:

My that looks TASTY!! This is the one time I wished web pages could give you SMELLS as well as pictures and sounds... maybe the next version of Internet Explorer, I hear those Microsoft people are pretty smart... (hey Alan get on it!)

ah HA!!! no wonder......... ok i would just like to say that this frickin picture must have gotten into my subconscious, because i went and cooked bacon two mornings in a row this weekend. and I actually did use low heat... but darnit i have to say my bacon was more... chewy? maybe there's something i'm missing...

You should put the bacon on top of an Eggo waffle, then top with Sriracha and Maggi sauce. Sprinkle a few ramen noodles on top for garnish, and there you have the Dan Shen diet!

You see that picture of me?? That is one HAPPY Dan! I'm sure many of you wondered if this website would ever come out, or if I was just blowing smoke all this time. After months of slaving away, 2 mice replacements, 2 keyboard replacements, I finally delivered!! cha-ching. Not to let my guard down, I'm sure there are many bugs so PLEASE let me know if you find any.

This site would not have been possible without the support of all my friends and family. I had you all in mind while I was making the site, I hope you know. I'd like to give special thanks to my mom and dad, pretty much the only reason I didn't starve to death the last few months. And thank you Alan for your brotherly advice and awesome, awesome technical input, dude you're a machine. To all my friends who never got to see me, and yet forgave me, thanks for understanding that I needed to be a hermit for a while! Sofia, thanks for all the help with the school data and art, especially while your arm was crippled. Jeremy, the logo is freakin' KICKIN', I really appreciated your contributions.
