i found bill bryson very entertaining and educational (learned fascinating things, like about the american chestnut tree). the title made me think i wouldn't be into it, but the book wasn't a boring adventure story like i thought it was going to be...

Non-fiction about 2 well-past middle-age guys attempting the Appalachian Trail. Their inexperience (mentally and physically) results in humorous misadventures along the way. Katz tosses many essentials to lighten his pack while Bryson does damage control. Bryson supplants the tale with historical facts, regional tidbits, and clips from historic hikes.
