While I loved this book, I will also admit it is not an easy or fast read. It goes into the details, the nitty-gritty, and sometimes that makes it a bit dry. And it's long. But this is also what makes it so great - when you finish, you really truly feel like you've become an expert on the history and some of the science behind the making of the atomic bomb.

Notes
A Pulitzer Prize-winning book about the Manhattan Project, and the minds behind it. In reading this book, you'll learn a lot about everything, from World War II history to nuclear physics. And while some of the topics approached are quite complex (e.g. the aforementioned nuclear physics), at no point does it become incomprehensible. The book remains readable because it's written less like a textbook and more like a narrative history. The author Richard Rhodes draws from documents and personal correspondences of the men involved to weave together an interesting and accurate history of the nuclear weapons program.
