Movie Reviews: Some Like It Hot

I was pleasantly surprised. Some genuine chuckles to be had.

i found this marilyn monroe "classic" somewhat boring, over-the-top silly/slapstick for my tastes, and generally trite in it's ideas - of course, this may not have been the case when it was made (i'm sure it may have been very unique during it's time) but in this century it just felt immensely dated.
although, i suppose, whether or not it seems dated, it just isn't my type of movie (cross-dressing guys lusted over a silly blonde just doesn't do it for me...)

"I heard a very sad story about a girl who went to Bryn Mawr.  She squealed on her roommate, and they found her strangled with her own brassiere."

Billy Wilder directs.  Oscar winning everything.  This is a hilarious comedy with quite convincing crossdressing and transgendering (Tony Curtis and John Lemmon), mobsters, lots of legs, silly romantic tension, there's a silly chase, some of the wittiest dialogue interspersed with musings on gender dynamics, a truly, adorable, sweetly sexy, endearingly airheaded Marilyn Monroe (it's got to be her best role).  Did I mention there are legs? Lots of legs.
