We just rolled out a redesign of the What's New box. We tried to streamline it a bit, and make the individual items small enough to fit 10 on your homepage so it's easier to see at a glance what your friends have been up to.
We also decided that the tabs that used to be at the top of the box were probably not that useful to most people, and perhaps contributed to a cluttered look, so we removed them. We're planning going to add back notification filtering soon though (but in a different form), so if you did use the tabs, don't worry.
Anyway, let us know what you think of the new design. Hope you like it!

Can you make it so they are smaller. Also, the tabs were useful...for instance I don't really care about new photos or tips. I only look at those if I am looking for something specifically.
i love the new design of the box!!!! the date bar (the font sizing and the grey on grey) is beautiful! however, it might make the page look more harmonious if that design scheme was echoed else where on the page (make other date references or title bars in a similiar format).
Class E--we can't really make them smaller without making them appear really cluttered. We tried a few different amounts of padding on the notifications and what you see now is the minimum we felt that left them actually readable and not a jumbled mess.
As for the tabs--thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I used to use them too. We're probably going to add them back on a separate notifications page.
Aileen--thank Josiah for the spiffy date seperators (and the whole new design, basically). But I'm not sure what else on the page we could make look like that. Anything you had in mind?
class-e, be sure to hit refresh. they were big and weird looking for me at first, refresh caused the cache to reload and fixed them
by the way, i love the redesign
Of course I refreshed it, that's the first thing I did. It is just too large, and especially unfriendly for a notebook screen.
ah, i see what jet is talking about -- i got this when i went to zoji on safari:
refreshing helped restore it to looking normal.
odd -- firefox 3 on windows didn't need that explicit refresh. maybe some CSS wasn't pushed through (and cached by browser)?
i like the redesign! the thing i miss from tabs is 'separation by type' of notification. it might be confusing to have tabs back, but some kind of filtering would be welcome.
'hope to see other elements to adapt similar style -- it's really slick looking (like the forums!)
That's odd...our webserver does explicitly tell browsers to refresh their cache after 3 am. I guess Firefox (and IE) respect this, but perhaps Safari doesn't?
I am running firefox...I needed to refresh.
just checked on Firefox 3 on OS X, it parsed the page correctly w/o an explicit reload. yep, maybe Safari doesn't like to listen to webservers?
re: class E
hmm... weird.
If you logged in after Dan did the deployment (think it might have been around 1 am) but before 3 am, then yes, you would've had to refresh.
i'm glad i read this blog about refreshing zoji, because my first impression of the resdesign was not as favorable...

I'm new to doing electronic social networking and my IT IQ isn't high....Help! My problem is that I cannot change the extension on my URL. Everytime I put in ....tangodance42, I get an error stating its already taken, but I don't believe that's so. I think I did something wrong. Would someone please help.
Thanks.
