Latest Zoji update

Thursday, October 27, 2005 2:21 AM
The latest zojirific updates from Team Zoji:
  • Non-Zoji users can now email groups.  This is a per-group setting.  This means you can now send mail to support@zoji.com.  Woo.
  • You can now edit group blogs.  Feature that's was missing.
  • Fixed editing blog comments. I broke it last week.  Oops.
  • Fixed RSS feed validation issue.  Again, broke it last week.  I suck.  (Hope Dan isn't reading this)
  • Added <dc:creator> field to RSS feeds.  RSS readers that support that field (like SharpReader) can tell you who created a blog for, say, a group blog RSS feed.
  • Made the profile & group page action lists more prominent (you may need to refresh your browser to pick this up)
  • Bug fix for Cool Sites updates.
Enjoy,
Kevin

Subscribing to Group Blogs

Saturday, October 22, 2005 3:34 AM
Today's rollout is brought to you by the letter Z.

First off: ACK!!  Apparently, Dan and I were dumb and didn't realize when we created this Support@Zoji group that non-members can't send emails to a group.  Sorry.  We'll fix that ASAP, but for now, do NOT send your bug report mails to support@zoji.com as they will float off into the Internet ether, never to be seen again.  Until we fix it, please send your bug reports directly to me (kevin@zoji.com) or Dan (dan@zoji.com).

Among our updates for today:
  • Subscribing to group blogs by non-members: non-members can now subscribe to group blogs--you should see a "subscribe" link in the blog preview pane of the group profile page.  Click it, and you'll receive notifications of new blogs.  In fact, why not do it right now for this group's blogs? :-)
  • Fixed bug where emails sent through Yahoo through Zoji were truncated.
  • Group profile page used to show a truncated blog.  Now it doesn't.
  • Fixed a bug where some spaces were being stripped from blogs when they were edited.
  • Fixed a bug preventing new Cool Sites from being added.
  • Some visual improvements to profile blog preview pane and blog views.
Thanks,
Kevin.

What's new @ Zoji

Wednesday, October 19, 2005 1:15 AM

What's new?  Well for one thing, the group that you're reading this blog in (Support@Zoji) is. :-)  Dan and I decided it wasn't really the proper thing to do to be blogging about Zoji updates in our personal blogs, so we created this group.  This group also replaces the old support@zoji.com account that people used to send bug reports, questions, etc.  We haven't done it yet, but we plan to add support for subscribing to group blogs (including those you're not a member of), and we'll subscribe everyone to the support@zoji blog (of course, you'll be able to unsubscribe if you don't give a damn about update info and so forth).

Also included in the latest rollout:

  • Subscribing to blog comments - this one was requested by several people.  Normally, you get notified of new blog comments if someone comments on your blog or a blog you've commented on.  There used to be no way of getting notifications when someone commented on a blog you didn't comment on yourself, so to follow a comment thread, you had to manually find your way back to that blog and check it periodically.  Now, there's a handy "Subscribe to comments" link at the bottom of each blog.
  • A few changes to our CSS file - NOTE: due to browser caching, these changes might not initially appear.  To correct this, hit the Refresh button on your browser.  Sorry for the inconvenience, but as Dan says, you get what you pay for. :-)
  • Fixed a bug where some characters like "<" and ">" were displaying as "&lt;" and "&gt;".

Have fun.

Zoji form repost issue

Tuesday, October 11, 2005 5:23 PM

Dan released a new build of Zoji yesterday.  Among the fixes was one for all those annoying duplicate posts (e.g. blog comments, event comments).  This should also stop you from getting those "Do you want to repost form data" dialogs from the browser when navigating away from, then back to a page (or clicking the refresh button) after submitting a comment, and should also fix any remaining duplicate post problems.

Note, because it would've taken a whole lot of work, I didn't fix this issue for every Zoji form, only for the most visible ones (blog and event comments, search for user by name, and a few others).  This means that for some forms (i.e. anything with a Submit button), you may still get "Do you want to repost form data" prompts, however, I think all the duplicate post issues should be fixed.

If you see anymore duplicate post issues, let me know.  Also, if you get that "repost form data" prompt for any other forms and it annoys you, let me know and I'll add it to the list of ones to apply the same fix to.  Thanks!

New Zoji Feature: Cool Sites

Monday, October 3, 2005 10:43 AM

Over the weekend Team Zoji released a new feature "Cool Sites" (this was supposed to go out friday, but Kevin made me and Ray do a casino run instead).  OK I know it sounds kinda lame, if you can think of a better name lemme know.  Click on the tab and look around.  Basically you can subscribe to various topics you're interested in, and channel-surf different web sites for those topics.  By default you're subscribed to the "Humor" and "Illusions" topics, but you can change that easily by clicking "change topics".  When you find a site you're interested in, you can add it to your favorites list, send a link to a friend, and/or create a discussion about it (which works very much like normal blogs do).

Just another way Zoji is there to help your mind wander and kill time!

Also new is if you go to the Blogs tab, you will see a link "Your comments".  This shows all the blogs you've ever commented on.

I've been noticing some bugs and frantically fixing them, so please be patient, and gimme heads-up if you see anything weird.  Thanks -dan
